Expecting Mom!

Yes Lisa was pregnant! Time would tell how many little ones would light up our world.
We started counting days waiting for the new born to arrive.

Managed to grab a pic of Lisa and Rex and their love for each other.

Coz you're my mate and I will stand by you...

Rex is a grown boy now. He finally found love, his childhood friend Lisa - a fawn coloured Labrador. She is the most docile and patient female I have met.

This was in the month of March, the mating season! Lisa was brought over to our place and she stayed here for 3 long days. Those 3 days, Rahul and I spent sleepless nights watching if they actually did it! Moreover we had to keep them in separate rooms, let them calm down, ensure they didn't drink or eat 1 hour before and after their action. So our time table was a 3 hours span.... Phew!

The first two days went in vain as both were in the learning phase. But Rex would get impatient soon. The worst part was when we would jump in to help them, he would walk off leaving poor Lisa in the middle of nowhere.

But the 3rd day they did it! How glad were we!

Happy New Year 2010 Rexxy boy!

4th Jan 2010 - Rahul drove to Miraj to greet his parents and Rex. He would be accompanied by them on his return! I was eagerly waiting for them and this time I wasn't nervous! Rather, I was super excited and was so looking forward to meet the little boy..

At last there he was at the doorstep. My Little Boy!!! This time it was I who gave him a bear hug! It felt amazing...His soft fur brushing against my cheek, I felt like I was hugging a soft toy. And yeah Rex love it too... His tail was wagging away to glory.

They say that a dog's mood can be judged with the tail wagging orientation - they wag to the left when happy and in a positive mood; right when they feel negative and sense bad aura; its pointed straight when angry or suspicious and the hair at the nape of their neck stands up straight too.. Yes that's dog goosebumps!

The Separation

1st Nov - it was time to return to Pune. Rex and my in-laws would stay back in Miraj and join us in January... Rahul was very sad and so was Rex. Dogs have an amazing sixth sense and Rex knew that Rahul and I were leaving.. My heart broke. But we had to leave to join our jobs...

Travel to Pune was rather a quiet one. I felt sorry for both Rahul and Rex. I could sense the bonding that they shared... how they ached for each other....

We hear a lot about the beauty of human relationships, seldom do people speak or write about the special bonding shared by humans with the other living creations of God..  I now started reading a lot of books on Labrador upbringing and started numbering the days when we would see our little friend again....

Getting Acquainted

Now both Rex and I had to get acquainted.... He would come and sit next to me and do nothing... so yeah, the smart little fella wanted me to make the first move. Rahul ensured that the 'getting acquainted' process was rather a smooth one... I was made to serve Rex his food, water, milk, doggy treats etc etc so Rex would get used to my presence.

But on the second day, Rahul asked me to feed Rex! Now how could he expect me to do that...!!!
'It's too early for me to do that' came my curt reply. Rahul smiled and said - 'if you trust me you can trust him. He wont bite.' I was taken by surprise and ashamed as I wasn't giving my 100% to the little one.
But what could I possibly do.. I never had dogs and was not used to having one around. I told Rahul that I would definitely feed him, all by myself at the right time....

Rex meets Yennkay

Days passed by into months and soon came the D-day when Rahul and I tied the knot. Rex was made to crash in at Rahul's friend's place for a week's time as the wedding was in my hometown.
It was 29th Oct 2009 when I first met Rex at Miraj... I saw a big doggy wagging his tail happily when he saw me.
I was scared, no not scared, was nervous.... I was wondering how would I maintain my balance if he jumped to play with me.
I pinned my back to the wall and then came Rex, jumped on me as if he wanted to give me a huge bear-hug!! Yes Rex gave me a hug! Our first hug...
Out came a shout which was rather a mixture of emotions - happiness, excitement and nervousness.. that was me! :)

Teething problems

Soon came the next tough phase, teething problems...!
This phase comprises of two emotions in each parent's life - Fear and Happiness.
  • Fear - courtesy the needle sharp teeth that gnaw away furniture, shoes.. name it and that could be a potential prey to the pup's growing teeth.
  • Immense happiness - 'coz the pup's growing from a lil angel to a big, strong and a mature adult!
Rahul tells me that he used to be scared of lil Rex as Rex had a habit of nibbling Rahul's fingers. Little did he know that his nibbling was equivalent to Acupuncture! :)
